Cultural Identity Wrap-up

                                                        Korea = The world ???

I had read an article. It was about the identity of Korea. When I was young, I was taught at school that historically Korea was a homogeneous ethnic group and no mixed blood with others. Korean people considered that is our national pride and self-esteem.
 On the other hand, the article's writer said this stereotype had negative effects an our national development today. So, we should build up a new cultural identity by accepting cultural diversity from other countries and by blending with our own unique traditional culture.
If we keep resisting cultural variety in this global society, we will not be able to avoid cultural isolation like North Korea. I think it is not the only way to keep our traditional culture identity by denying other culture. Taking an advantage of other culture and mixing and making a harmony with ours could be an alternative way to keep and make new identity.

Cultural Identity

  In this unit we learn some American cultures,so we know some cultural differences with our country.For example,In the U.S. a lot of people have some food with bread for their lunch or dinner,and so many people like to eat a lot of meat.So Hamberger ,Hotdog,Taco,etc are Americans' favorate.We do not to change our life styles specially,we just try to accept some American cultures,If you do that,I think you will have a better life in U.S.

Benin the first coutry of Peace in Africa

Peace is a state of harmony characterized by the lack of violent conflict. Commonly understood as the absence of hostility, peace also suggests the existence of healthy or newly healed interpersonal or international relationships, prosperity in matters of social or economic welfare, the establishment of equality, and a working political order that serves the true interests of all. In international relations, peacetime is not only the absence of war or conflict, but also the presence of cultural and economic understanding .

Benin  offered a lot of refugee capms to people who are runing for "War". 

Benin is tiny place in the world

 but  on the top when it come to talk about peace in Africa.

Benin is the only country in Africa where religious point of views doesn't realy matter.

Jeremy Lin, the first American born NBA player of Asian heritage. He 's a basketball star. He was born in America and raise as American. He's more of a normal height and do things in the American way, but you can learn so many things from his Asian heritage, hardworking, honest,and composed. People called him " the light of Asian" or "the proud of Asian". Many Chinese people are proud of him because of the same cultural heritage, but respect his American identity at the same time. Forget about where he come from, I only see a young man win the applause by working hard.

 After readung the identity culture reading" I want to be Miss America", I realized that it is very important to be proud of my cultural identity. I don't want to regret not having the pride of my culture as the author of this article does until later she realizes that she was wrong and now it is too late to become proud of her Dominican nationality. Looking and being like the people who live in the country I recently moved to, America, is a good thing; however, spending my whole life copying the styles of the girls and the beauty pageants in the new country could be frustrating thing, so it is better to wait for being one of the people of the new country gradually. Thus, I will always realize that I am Iraqi first and American second.

I learned many articles in this unit on Cultural Identity. One of " I want to Be Miss America" gets an expression to me . The writer through a pageant which is a TV show to tell us about American tradition and culture. Before I didn't like watch TV about other countries, but now I often watch TV to know the other countries culture and tradition. I am very happy to learn this article and unit.
